What is it?
Hydroseeding is one of the most versatile forms of growing new grass around. It provides a cost-effective and highly efficient grass planting process where a mix of seed, mulch, fertilizer, and tackifiers are sprayed directly onto the soil giving you a beautiful new lawn in a mere matter of months. Hydroseeding prevents erosion and seed wash-out, while incorporating soil amendments and fertilizers in one simple step. So, what separates Top Turf from all the other competitors in the FM area?

We start with a free quote based on your lawn’s needs and characteristics.
At Top Turf we use two types of seeds - an elite 5-way bluegrass sod blend and a premium 3-way blend. Both utilize top quality bluegrass, fescue, and rye grasses designed to have the same growing characteristics as one-another to ensure a uniform and lush yard.
These balanced seed blends benefit from having each seed serve a different purpose - one to green-up early and one for darker greens.

Our proprietary hybrid fertilizer program for short term and long term feeding and soil amending properties include the following:
Controlled CRN organic and synthetic Nitrogen
Organic and Synthetic phosphorus
Organic and Synthetic potassium
Specially chelated micronutrients to increase and availability in low PH soil like the Red River Valley and helps maintain availability in the soil longer
Humic acids and other organics to increase soil health
Microbial inoculate to restart microbial biome that is usually destroyed during construction period to help jumpstart the new seeding growth.
All the organic products in our proprietary mix help feed the micro biome, and the enzymes excreted by the microbes break down the nutrients into usable forms for the grass roots to absorb and use

Moisture management is the last piece of the perfect lawn puzzle. Each wetting agent we use works together to increase germination time, growing speed, and the final successful product. In total we use 3 types of wetting agents that achieve the following things:
-
Small droplets of moisture to create availability for plants
-
Increases water permeability in the heavy clay soil found in the Red River Valley to help prevent runoff
-
Polymeric gel that can expand up to 800x its size to increase soil water holding capacity. As soil naturally dries out during the day, it releases its holding back to the soil to maintain moisture
Weeds are a four-letter word where we come from. That’s why we use a special product to minimize weeds for the first 2-6 weeks.

After Care

After hydroseeding it is extremely important that water is applied regularly. The following are our recommendations for hydroseeding watering:
-
After the seed has been sprayed, water at least 4-5 times a day, per zone, for at least 10-15 minutes
-
Ensure there is even coverage from sprinkler irrigation
-
Water in the mornings and afternoons. Watering at night creates the perfect environment for disease
-
You may need to adjust run times to ensure that your lawn is getting enough water and staying moist
-
Some areas of your yard may dry out quicker than other areas and need more or less time added to those zones
-
Water in this way until you have green grass sprouting all over your yard. Once grass has started to sprout, you may decrease your watering to 2 times per day.
-
Once the grass has reached about 3 or 4 inches in height, you may cut watering back to 3 or 4 days a week depending on your grass’s needs
-
Mow once the grass has reached 5 inches in height. Do not mow when the grass is wet
-
Monitor your lawn for any signs of disease (Discoloration of new grass, spots or lesions on grass blades, brown spots etc.)

Top Turf does not offer broadcasting or drill seeding services.
We only offer hydroseeding and sod installation because they are the best options for your new lawn. Hydroseeding ensures there is no erosion or loss of seeds which is especially important given the high volume of wind we experience here in the upper midwest. Hydroseeding and sod laying with Top Turf also provides you with short-term and long-term fertilizer programs built-in to help your new grass grow strong.
